Last Monday, Memorial Day, Branch 79 of the National Association of Letter Carriers, representing letter carriers in Seattle, rallied to educate the public about the current situation at the post office (https://nalc79.org/).

A new contract is currently being negotiated. One of the demands concerns staffing. Now, many post offices are understaffed, which necessitates the workers that are available to be mandated to work many hours of overtime, sometimes into the dark.

I retired from the post office in June of 2014. The only one I knew at the rally was Mark Myers, now the Vice President of Branch 79. We worked many years together at the Burien Station.
