I was driving in the South Bay area of Olympia last Tuesday when I came upon this church. It was late morning, and the sky was unusually bright. I had my Pentax 645N with me, loaded with Kodak 400TX film. A slower film would have been more appropriate, but I wanted to see how Diafine and 400TX handled the light.

I do not have the skillset for understanding density and other factors that go into developing, but I could see that the shadow areas in some of these images had very little or no detail. Whether the contrast provided difficulties or not, I want to avoid a similar situation in the future. Would HC-110 give a better outcome?

I wanted to look through the windows.

Note the shadow being cast by the air conditioner.

This is what happens when you lighten the shadow. On a print, it might not be as noticeable.

I used the 45mm (28mm equivalent) and 75mm (45mm equivalent) lenses for these images. I am still using the original batch of developer I made in December of last year. As you use the developer’s A Solution and B Solution, the levels will decrease, particularly Solution A. I have made a new quart of both Solutions and will add to the original as needed.

I still have the Suburban. Circumstances have not allowed travelling far from home.
