I drove about 2000 miles (3219 kilometers) on my recent trip through the Great Basin. I saw lots of road signs.

I do not enjoy driving. How can I make it enjoyable?

I could read a book while driving, but my 1999 Suburban does not have self-driving.

I thought… I could load a roll of Ilford FP4+ into my Nikon F100 and create a catalog of road signs, so I did.

You must be careful when creating the images. Some of the best signs had no pull-outs to stop and capture the image, which was frustrating at times. But safety was a priority. With the lack of traffic, some trucks and cars using the highway drive far above the speed limit.

Next time you are on a road trip with someone, have them record all the signs you pass by. You will be surprised at the number of different signs you come across (https://mutcd.fhwa.dot.gov/services/publications/fhwaop02084/index.htm).

This is not an ‘official sign’, but I thought it was important to include in my catalog.

I had the Voigtlander 40mm Ultron F2 attached to the camera. I developed the film in HC-110(B) for 9 minutes @ 20C. I scanned the negatives with the PrimeFilmXEs using VueScan software.

Such a great storyboard subject Steven. And each sign is a story in itself too. Love that car swerving sign after reading your comment on the possibility of reading a book whilst driving. And the close up decision to capture L and R snippets of information is intriguingly lovely. Hope you enjoyed all your new adventures out there. Some great photographic results to add to the memories. Will go look at your included link now too. All the best.
