All the images appearing here today were created with the Voigtlander 58mm Nokton 1.4 Lens except for the above photo, which was captured with the Nikon 28mm 2.8D Lens. The camera used was the Nikon FM3a.

The day was cool and cloudy. I arrived by train a little after 10 AM. I brought two rolls of film: a roll of Kodak 400TX, which I pushed one stop, and a roll of Kodak Portra 160. Since buying the lens a couple of months ago, I have had a problem manually focusing the 58mm lens, so I concentrated on that lens throughout the three-and-a-half hours I was downtown.

I developed the film in HC-110(B) for 4 minutes @ 20C. Then, using the Epson software, I scanned the negatives with the Epson V850.

Great captures of both aware and unaware. All look extremely natural poses. I had focus problems on all my Pentax lens using the LX. So, even as a complete novice, put two and two together and thought maybe it was the camera. Then of course read about the ‘sticky mirror’ problem. Would you have to get the lens properly realigned in your case. Or would you look on the situation as a quirky addition to your collection. Rather like I would on a musical instrument or fountain pen. All the best Steven.

The problem is twofold. My eyes are not seeing as a young man would see, especially the left eye. Also, The Voigtlander lenses have a long focus throw. While that is good for precise focusing it is not good for getting a subject in focus in a millisecond.

Eyes, especially wearing varifocal glasses as I do, are quite the challenge. Older age and eyesight capability changes more often too doesn’t it. I believe the quick use of the small lever as a depth of field focus indicator on the LX was used more often than not. But I suppose that’s aesthetic country. But a lens problem as you describe? I never got to experience anything like that.

The focus on these frames looks perfect. It looks like you are getting the hang of this lens.

There are still many more failures than those focused correctly. I think anyone would have the same problem creating sharp images in the moment.
