When I awoke this morning, I realized I had forgotten something. I visit the August Sunflower Festival or the October Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch yearly (https://rutledgecornmaze.com/).

Since I missed the Sunflower Festival, I had better go to the Corn Maze. It was raining outside, but that was okay.

Overlooking the Corn Maze. I have no sense of direction so I did not venture far inside.

The Sunflower field was adjacent to the Corn Maze. A couple of months ago, they would have been beautiful.

I then went off to the Pumpkin Patch. With Halloween the next day, there were not many left.

I shot these images with the Pentax 645N and the 75mm 2.8 Lens. I developed the film in Cinestill’s C-41 Developer. I scanned the negatives with the Epson V850, using VueScan.

  1. You have captured such poignancy in these photographs Steven. My Mother (Mum) loved Sunflowers. And when I supported profoundly Deaf students in education, one student studied van Gogh. I often think of my Mum’s contribution to life. She worked and supported abused women and their children in her fifties. So the Sunflower and much of the poems, stories, etc. were interesting reads. It was when I supported that one particular student that we both started looking at poetry to link to van Gogh’s art too. The, as said, poignancy of the Sunflower’s life cycle and how Van Gogh himself also changed from the bright to darker colour use of paint choice in his own life. It is so admirable that you capture all subjects in many various forms…as you often do. The holistic stories of nature’s life cycles. All the best Steven.
