On our trip through the Great Basin, we alternate between hotel rooms and camping. On the days we camp, I look for a dirt road that leads into oblivion around 6 p.m. and follow it till I find a spot that is level and big enough for the Suburban to park at.

Much of Nevada is used to graze the cattle that we all consume in one way or another. When you camp, you are setting up in an area where cattle graze. I could go into the mountains where the area is more pristine, but I try to remain within 3 miles of the highway.

My wife will comment, “This is no place to camp!” I will reply, “You are right, but it is a place where we can sleep and leave early in the morning to continue our journey. ” We go to sleep when it gets dark and rise with the sun.

These images were captured using the Nikon Z5 with the Nikkor Z 28mm f/2.8 lens. I took pictures from the back and front of the car, as well as the left and right sides.
