This is the second time I have used this film in the Great Basin. A year ago, I used the original version in Southeast Oregon, around the Goose Lake area (https://stevenlawrencepictures.com/2024/09/12/goose-lake-oregon2-harman-phoenix-200-september-4/).

There are some improvements in the color. The shadow areas are still difficult to manage, but perhaps they add some character and uniqueness to the images and are not a distraction.

The color palette of the film and the landscape of the Great Basin complement each other well.

This tree is a Western Juniper (Juniperus occidentalis). The trees have been moving into lower areas and are disrupting the original habitat (https://onda.org/the-juniper-paradox/). Here is another view: (https://gardenriots.com/2024/10/20/the-much-maligned-western-juniper-the-role-of-juniperus-occidentalis-in-central-oregon/). With research, one finds many diverse opinions about what, if anything, we should do to restore the former range of the tree.

I shot the film with the Pentax 645N and the 75mm F2.8 lens. I developed the film using Cinestill’s C-41 process. I scanned the negatives with the Epson V850 using VueScan.
