It is early morning. I arrived at Gerlach the night before. In a few days, I will be home.

My wife and I stayed at Bruno’s Motel. We enjoyed a small, clean room for $77.00. Before leaving for home, the young woman who cleans the rooms came by and made sure the pilot light was lit on the wall heater.

The town of Gerlack has a population of 130. The town is famous for hosting Burning Man, which occurs nearby in the Black Rock Desert. The building above is the event headquarters (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9282sAmgkvY).

We then drove 83 miles to Cedarville, California. A town with over 400 residents, it has a hospital, a food store, and a hardware store.

These images were created with the Nikon FM3a. I used either the Nikkor 50mm F1.2 or the Voigtlander Color-Skopar 28mm F2.8 Lens. I used Cinestill’s C-41 kit to develop the film. I scanned the images with the PrimeFilmXEs using VueScan.

What an amazing colour palette you captured Steven. And very much like the YouTube video link colour ambience too. Is it the negative film’s inherent colour nature or the local light? You chose a wonderful place to visit. Such a fascinating experience I should imagine. All the best.

Each film stock has its own color palette. Some are nuanced and others create a new interpretation of color in a particular scene.

It is a fantastic result. Kodachrome was my early experience of alternative purposeful colour dynamics, but having never ventured into colour film use, I still have no idea or knowledge of possibilities. These photos of yours have opened my eyes. Cheers for the explanation Steven.
