It is late afternoon on New Year’s Eve in Tumwater, Washington. One moment, fog envelops the area, and the next, bright sunshine. The city of Tumwater is directly south of Olympia. It was where Olympia Beer (It’s the Water”) was brewed until 2003 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTBRt7hvJbo).

An I-5 sound wall along 2nd Avenue in Tumwater.
In 1958, the I-5 Freeway was completed. It split the city in half and destroyed the original downtown. If you travel through the town today you will not find a core downtown area. There is still controversy today over the route chosen and why the City Council of Tumwater allowed it (https://olympiatime.com/category/tumwater/).

The film was shot using the Pentax 645, with the 75mm 1:2.8 Lens attached. I developed the film in Rodinal (1:50) for 8 minutes at 20 °C. I agitated for the first thirty seconds and 10 seconds every minute thereafter. I scanned the images with the Epson V850 using VueScan.
