The last time I used the Mamiya 4b was in the middle of October. With a shutter speed limit of 1/250th of a second the camera can be limiting under certain circumstances. On a partly clouded morning, and the camera is loaded with 100-speed film, the limits do not provide any challenges in capturing images.

The lens (40mm 1:2.8) is not sharp, but the images are still acceptable.

The camera is a rangefinder, which is a very meditative way to shoot, and that is probably why I enjoy it.

I used the Fomapan datasheet to determine the development time of 6 minutes, 30 seconds, @20C, in Ilford ID-11 (1/0).

  1. Excellent set of photos, Steven. I’m a fan of Fomapan 100. I think it’s a really beautiful classic film stock. It paired well with your “not sharp” 40mm lens.
