It is a Saturday morning. It is raining, but by the time I am ready for my walk around the neighborhood, the rain has stopped.
I am shooting a roll of 400TX. Normally, at least this year, I would develop the film in Df96, Cinestill’s Monobath Developer. This time I am using Kodak’s HC-110.
Why am I doing this? HC-110 is the developer I have used for most of my work in the past 10 years. I was curious whether I would notice any difference between the two products beyond the Monobath Developer’s ease of use.
In the past, I developed 400TX in HC-110 with the 1:31(B) solution between 4 and 5 minutes. While this is close to what Kodak stipulates, most do not follow that recommendation and develop the film for 6 minutes @20 °C. So I went with the 6-minute time.
I found I need more time to evaluate the two products.
I scanned the negatives with the PrimeFilmXEs using VueScan. I shot the film with the Nikon N2020 and the AF Nikkor 50mm 1:1.8 Lens (early version without the D attached to the name).
