In 2012 a tax levy was passed to build a new Juvenile Justice Center in Seattle. The contractor was approved in 2015. Construction has already begun. There has been a movement to block the facility. The main argument against is that the facility will continue the systemic incarceration of people of color, which occurs at a higher rate than other groups.
