I do not know why the homestead was abandoned. It was late afternoon, and I was looking for a place to camp near Coyote Lake, a dry lake near Barstow, California. Most of the land is BLM Land, but the map did show pockets of private land in the area. I decided to park and set up camp at the front gate. It was quiet, with most campers down by the dry lake itself. I have been looking for a place to spend my final years on this trip, but I doubt it will be in the lower regions of the Mojave Desert as this home is. It is hot here for 8 months of the year. It is also a region where law enforcement is not practical.
