Let me introduce the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the tall mountains in the image above, and the Alabama Hills, shown here in the foreground. They are made of the same granite and are of the same age, but each has been exposed to different geologic events and weathering over the past millions of years that account for how each looks today (https://blogs.agu.org/mountainbeltway/2018/02/08/spectacular-display-earth-science-alabama-hills/).

I have visited the area many times, but this was my wife’s first time there. She was fascinated and wanted to spend hours hiking and photographing the area. The rocks offer a stunning visual exercise.

This was my first attempt at shooting Neopan Acros II. I developed the film in HC-110(B) for 5 minutes @20C. I agitated continuously the first minute and then 5 seconds every minute after that (https://asset.fujifilm.com/www/us/files/2020-08/ed6acf9a3aeefed477d0f169df7c8457/films_neopan100acros2_120_01.pdf).

I shot the film with the Pentax 645N. I scanned the negatives with the Epson V850, using VueScan software.

  1. What a spectacular setting. You did well with a new film. It is hard to beat Acros in a medium format camera. The tonality suits the setting perfectly, nice job.
